Today is "Horses on the Hill" day. Horse rescuers and advocates are meeting in Washington DC today to show their support for H.R. 503 and S. 727, the Prevention of Equine Cruelty Act. Please call the Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121 , and ask to be connected to your two Senators and House Rep to show your support for the passage of these bills. It is time to protect our pets!
The Indian Nations are seriously talking about building new slaughter facilities on reservation ground. That means there would be no governing body to make sure the horses are treated humanely. I also hate to think what will happen to our local horse welfare. Studies have shown that horse theft increases when there are slaughter facilities nearby.
Update: I just called the Capitol and spoke to the offices of my 2 senators, and 1 rep. It was fast - less than 5 minutes for all 3! I requested they each become co-sponsors of the bills and asked them to protect our horses by getting this bill passed ASAP. Very simple and quick!
