My neighbor sold their house and moved like 2 years ago, leaving cats behind. The place sat vacant for 1 year, then renters moved in. They recently moved out, claiming the cat situation got too bad. (ie: babies everywhere, climbing up thru the walls in the house, getting into the house..e.tc) I am not sure if they were feeding the cats or not.
Within the last couple of weeks, I've been seeing kittens over at my place, in my barn, stalls, and pasture... just afew here and there. They are feral cats, so they are scared of me. So momma cat shows up, and she is skin and bones..literally. I think she might've had one more day to live. She was in bad shape. I didn't want the cats to move in, so I was worried about feeding them... but I didn't want them to die in my barn either. Momma cat is very friendly and you can pet her all over the place. Two of her babies showed up too, also starving to death. I believe they are 8-10 weeks old. So I set up the cat feeding post. They were very happy. WIthin afew days, I was able to touch/pet one baby. The other baby is coming. One more baby showed up afew days later. There is an orange baby, fuzzy multi-colored one, and another multi-colored one. The momma is calico colored. They are doing so much better after afew days of food.
I contacted quite afew rescues, asking for help. I kept getting the same thing, our hands are tied we can't help, or you aren't in our immediate area. I posted an ad on Craigslist, and got many responses in an hour (before it was flagged an removed) SOmeone from POPP in our area, emailed me. I called her the next day, and I believe I will be getting some help with spaying/neutering the cat/kittens. Once we come back from vacation they will be contacting me. They will be assisting me in the trap/neuter/release. I will have to trap the babies. But they will come back and live here, as no one else can take them.
In the meantime, momma cat is doing well, and so are the babies! I think momma cat is pregnant again, as her belly has gotten quite round in the last few days.
