OUTLOOK, Wash. — Yakima County Sheriff’s investigators have no clues yet about who shot four riding horses in a pasture here last weekend.
Authorities said the four horses, which have been used for youth group rides, were found Sunday in a pasture near Price and Hudson roads.
One was dead, a second was seriously wounded and not expected to live, and two were shot at least once but were likely to survive, the sheriff’s office said. Two other horses were not harmed.
Stew Graham, sheriff’s chief of detectives, did not have updated conditions of the horses Thursday.
Sheriff’s detectives are investigating the incident for malicious mischief and animal cruelty, Graham said. It also could mean reckless endangerment if any homes or people were nearby at the time, and it could result in a felony depending on the value of the horses, Graham said.
Random shooting of farm animals isn’t common, but when it does happen it usually involves cattle, Graham said,
Authorities ask anybody with information to contact the sheriff’s office at 509-574-2500.
