I spent the day with the largest herd of Icelandic horses in the nation. All of the horses that are broke to ride have been spoken for. Most of the mares and geldings have also been placed. There are still several intact colts that may need homes. The farm manager is organizing a sealed bid auction for Nov. 21st for the remaining horses. If there are any horses without homes after that, Sunny Acres and Rodeo City Equine Rescue are standing by to help with placements. Here are some pictures that my friends, Amanda Barber and Syndi Duehn took from our visit. The latest news on the Icelandics is that the farm is putting together a catalog and pictures of all the horses that remain available. On Nov. 21st, the farm will be hosting a sealed bid for each of the horses still needing homes. All of the money collected on the sealed bids will be pooled together to pay for registering all of the Icelandics. People that have successful bids on the 21st may pick up their horse that same day. If any horses still remain after that, Sunny Acres and Rodeo City Equine Rescue in Ellensburg are standing by to help place them with qualified adopters.

Thanks Amanda! For the record, none of the mares are supposed to be pregnant. There is some misinformation being spread. The mares and geldings were kept together, and the stallions/stud colts were kept together.

I also would like to mention that these horses are not handled. I am seeing folks oohing and ahing over the cute fuzzy ponies. They are going to need to be worked by someone who knows what they are doing. Preferably someone familiar with Icelandics. They do not take kindly to rough handling. They are very strong and bigger than I thought they would be.

Due to bad weather, the bidder turn out for the auction was poor. Approved adopters from Sunny Acres Ranch took home 4 of the Icelandics yesterday though. Congrats to their new owners! There are still more than a dozen colts available, 2 geldings, and a couple of fillies. The pictures of the ones that still need homes are on this link: amandasveranda.blogspot.com/Sunny Acres is standing by to help adopt out the remaining horses if we are needed.
