It is lawn mowing season again, and the temptation to throw those clippings to the horses seems so......natural. After all, it is grass and horses eat grass, right?
Wrong! Lawn clippings are chopped up fine and small. They ferment and rot quickly too. Because of these two things, they can (and will!) easily cause a choke or colic.
Please do not EVER feed lawn clippings to your horses. They do not have a rumen like cattle and goats, so their digestion system is completely different. This is why cattle and goats can tolerate a little mold, but it could colic a horse and kill them. It is just not worth it, even if grass clippings are "free food". Put them on your garden for mulch instead. ;D
